Henna Mindful
Aftercare Instructions

Once freshly applied, avoid touching henna paste for at least 20-30 minutes. Be careful not to smudge on clothing, furniture, the cat, etc.

After 20 minutes when paste begins to dry, henna artist might spray or dab a lemon/sugar sealant to prevent paste from flaking off too quickly.

Avoid contact with water for the first 12 hours.

Keep warm to help the henna dye darken. Cold skin prevents a dark stain.

Leave the paste on for 4-8 hours or overnight. (You can wrap with toilet paper or vet wrap tape that sticks to itself).

When ready to remove dried paste, gently rub off or scrape off flakes with your nails, the dull edge of a butter knife or a credit card to reveal a light orange stain. Do NOT rinse off with water. If necessary, can use a little vegetable or olive oil to scrape off stubborn pieces, but then wipe off oil with dry paper towel or cloth.

The stain will continue to darken (oxidize) over the next two days (from orange to maroon to brown). This is the henna's peak color, after which the design gradually fades completely.

Henna stain usually lasts longer on hands (palms) and feet where skin layers are thicker.

Henna can last one to three weeks, sometimes longer.

After initial 12-48 hours, you can shower/bathe as usual. However, avoid chlorine, hand sanitizers, exfoliants or lotions, unless you want the henna to fade faster. Applying olive or vegetable oil to the area before showering will provide a good barrier.

Natural 100% henna used for body art is safe for your skin. Never let anyone apply "Black Henna" to your skin. It has chemical dyes added that can cause blisters and leave permanent scars on the skin.
